Louis the 14th was the "sun king" because he was the model absolute ruler who flet that, like the sun, all power radiated from him as his nickname would suggest. His early years was shaped by chaos and when he was young, a revolt forced him to flee Paris. This would have a profound effect on Louis and would shape his thinking for a long time. He waged many wars in his time and his palace at Versailles almost bankrupted France. Under his minister, Cardinal Richlieu, he supoorted protestants to weaken the Hapsburg encirclement of France. The fashion was more clothing and larger air, presumably to have a greater sense of awe.
